In the Studio: 17 June 2007

Richard shared the oral tradition in the digital age with every one today. How is Native American Oral Tradition in the Digital age going to survive was the question of the day. It is Richard's belief that with the emerging technologies of the new web great opportunities await us particularly with Podcasting to maintain the oral tradition.

The WinterCamp Chronicles is a good demonstration project of that.

Indiens

In the Studio: 10 September 2006

Indiens is three artists: Arohed, Jeremie Frank, and K.O. featuring various artists. They are Native American and Haitian. The name 'Indiens' represents the mixture of their Native American and Haitian background. Their lives have led them from New York City to the mountains of Colorado, and finally to Denver. With a few performances under their belt, Indiens have been hard at work to bring the sounds that represent who they are.

Indiens bring you voices from the reservation, the street, and the heartland. Native Americans today are highly active in hip-hop but often with limited means & remain mostly under-represented in a larger hip-hop community. In 2006, many people still are not aware that Native Americans are in their backyard, on their corner, and in the streets. Many young Natives express themselves through lyric and song. Indiens have resided in New York City, the mountains of Colorado, and in Denver. In Denver Indiens have seen the effect of the politically active era of the 1960’s and 70’s failing to evolve. Indiens have recently performed in Denver and Aurora and have been putting it down to bring the sounds.
